FAQ's

Unsure where to start? Here are some ways to help prepare for this time.

What is Fasting?

Fasting is a spiritual practice where you intentionally choose to abstain from food or specific types of nourishment for a set time. It’s a way to seek a deeper connection with God, gain self-control, and receive guidance. Fasting isn’t just about going without food; it’s about feeding your spirit and drawing closer to the divine. Explore the transformative power of fasting on your spiritual journey.

What types of Fasting are there?

Option 1: Daniel Fast

What It Is:
A biblically inspired fast based on the food Daniel consumed during his time of devotion (Daniel 1:12; 10:3). No meats, sweets, or breads.

Eat:

  • Fruits
  • Vegetables
  • Whole grains (brown rice, oats, quinoa)
  • Legumes (beans, lentils)
  • Nuts & seeds
  • Water, 100% juice, herbal tea

Avoid:

  • Meat, dairy, eggs
  • Processed foods
  • Sweeteners, sugar, soda
  • Bread, yeast
  • Caffeine

Best For:
Those who want to reset their body and spirit with consistent nourishment while maintaining energy.

Option 2: Partial Fast

What It Is:
A time-based fast. You eat only during a designated window of the day—usually 6 to 8 hours—and fast the rest (aka intermittent fasting).

Examples:

  • Fast from 6 AM to 3 PM (eat after 3 PM)
  • Fast from sunup to sundown (break fast at dinner)
  • Eat only one meal per day

Avoid During Fasting Window:

  • All food
  • Caffeinated drinks
  • Snacks

Best For:
Those with demanding schedules, health constraints, or seeking a balance between physical discipline and spiritual pursuit.

How do I prepare?

Preparing for a Time of Fasting

  1. Pray for Guidance: Seek the Holy Spirit’s guidance in prayer. Ask for insight into the areas of your life that may need fasting and prayer.
  2. Confession and Repentance: Before fasting, take time to reflect on your life and confess any sins or areas where you’ve fallen short. Repentance is a vital step in drawing closer to God.
  3. Set Clear Intentions: Determine your purpose for fasting. Are you seeking spiritual clarity, direction, or healing? Having a clear intention will help you stay focused.
  4. Surrender to God: Surrender your life fully to Jesus. Dedicate your fast to His glory and seek His presence throughout the process.

Remember, fasting is a personal journey, and the most crucial aspect is your heart’s posture. Approach it with humility, faith, and a desire to draw closer to God.

What should I pray for during the fast?

We’ve provided daily prayer points that focus on personal growth, the church, and the community. Each week has specific themes and scripture to guide your prayers.

What if I miss a day?

Don’t worry! Simply start again the next day. The goal is to grow closer to God, not perfection.

What if I’ve never fasted before?

That’s okay! Start small and ask God to help you. Whether it’s skipping a meal or fasting from social media, every step of obedience matters.

How can I share my experience?

We’d love to hear from you! Use the hashtag #MOTIV821Days on social media or send us an email with your testimony.
